Terms & Conditions

I am at least eighteen years of age, and warrant that I have the capacity to voluntarily seek an online philosophical chat with an APPA provider.

I understand that chatting with an APPA provider is an educational activity that does not constitute psychotherapy, nor any other psychological nor medical activity.

I understand that APPA providers are Certified Philosophical Practitioners. They meet APPA’s certification standards, adhere to APPA’s philosophical scope of practice, and are bound by APPA’s Code of Ethics.

My identity as a client will remain confidential with regard to any research publications and/or oral presentations of the contents of our chat. The chat will not be recorded. Records will be kept confidential to the extent required by law. APPA will not share my data for purposes of marketing, advertising, or other commercial activity.

As a client, I will be asked to do the following: To discuss my issues with the philosopher, and to answer relevant questions to the best of my ability.

If the philosopher adjudges that my issues are not primarily philosophical ones, or that they should not be addressed in the first place through a philosophical chat, then the philosopher will refer me for alternative professional consultation.

The philosopher will assist me in coming to terms with my issues. The philosopher will not determine what I should or should not do, and will make no choices for me. Rather, the philosopher will help me to clarify the implications of my possible choices.

The following benefits are expected to result from chatting with a philosopher:

(i) Minimally, the client should gain a deeper understanding of his or her issues.

(ii) Maximally, the client should feel more empowered to cope with or to resolve said issues.

We do not anticipate any risks to a client from chatting with a philosopher.

I understand that no advice or information obtained through the chat, will create any express or implied warranty.

I hereby acknowledge that APPA is not responsible for the contents of any transmission made through the chat system. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, client user voluntarily agrees to hold harmless, release, waive, and discharge all claims, actions, demands, suits, or claims against the APPA and our directors, officers, providers and affiliates, including any and all liability for damages, costs and expenses related to the chat.

I hereby agree to APPA’s policy regarding a dropped connection during the chat. If reconnection attempts fail, then: if the provider’s connection dropped, I will be reimbursed by APPA for the time lost. If my connection dropped, then I will not be reimbursed for the time lost and will not hold APPA responsible.

I understand and agree that if for any urgent reason I must terminate the chat before the allotted time expires, neither APPA nor the APPA provider will have any obligation to credit or refund any portion of unused time.

I understand and agree that if for any urgent reason the APPA provider must terminate the chat before the allotted time expires, then the APPA provider will provide a credit for any portion of unused time.
