My approach is grounded in the position that people are autonomous thinkers whose beliefs guide their thoughts, desires, and actions. Our beliefs can prevent us from seeing genuine opportunities, conflict with one another and cause disharmony, and lead us to mistakenly identify what is not good for us as what is good for us. False beliefs about the self and reality obstruct us from achieving our goals and living meaningful lives. In philosophical counseling, we confront our beliefs to help produce more beneficial thoughts, desires, and actions. By examining our beliefs, we can improve the quality of our lives.
In my practice, I am attentive to my clients’ everyday experiences and the problems that arise from them. The goals set in philosophical counseling are chosen and led by the client. I help you reach those goals by applying philosophical tools, skills, and ideas and by teaching you how to do the same.
